Course Description

The Certificate IV in Disability Support prepares students to work confidently and independently in the disability and community services sector. This course is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting people with disability to live more independent, meaningful, and inclusive lives.

Students will develop practical skills and knowledge to deliver person-centred support, work with individualised support plans, and promote community participation and wellbeing across a range of settings, including community environments and clients’ homes. The course also supports learners to build leadership and coordination skills, preparing them to supervise or support a small team.

 

On completion, graduates will be well-equipped to work in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and best practice, and to take the next step in a rewarding career within the disability support sector.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in the Certificate IV in Disability Support, learners must have completed one of the following qualifications:

  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
    OR

  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
    OR

  • CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability plus the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set

Learners may also be required to obtain a current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card – Queensland) prior to undertaking work placement or employment in the disability sector.
Application fees and requirements are determined by the relevant state authority.

On completion of this qualification, you can choose to do CHC50125 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education to continue your education career or study CHC40221 – Certificate IV in School Based Education and Support.

Fees and Funding (If eligible)

Queensland Government funding is available through Career Start General Training Pathway.

Government Funding Requirements

  • be a Queensland resident
  • be aged 15 years or over, and no longer
  • at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students)
  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
  • not already have a certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count); 
  • not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count). 

If a person is eligible for funding under the Career Start General Training Pathway, the Queensland Government will subsidise the costs of their accredited training, although a student contribution fee will be required.
